In just about every corner of the world, car washing is a lucrative business opportunity. According to the International Carwash Association (ICA), we spend world-wide more than $22.2 billion annually to have our vehicles professionally cleaned. And, business is growing. In 2001, the ICA reported that over half of all conveyor car wash businesses enjoy an average yearly increase in wash volume of 15 percent. The potential market of car washes increases daily due to the following: * Car prices are higher and on the rise. * There are more cars on the road than ever before. * People are keeping cars longer. Close to 40 percent of vehicles on the road are 10 years or older (ICA). * Government enforcement of laws concerning the environment and pollution is making motorists aware of the harmful effects of driveway washing (Professional Carwashing & Detailing, 2/03). * Due to recent droughts, many government entities have banned driveway washing (Professional Carwashing & Detailing, 2/03). This has also been banned in Germany. Mainly due to the high water usage (averaging 420 litres per car for a driveway wash, with all waste water being untreated and going into storm drains and sewers polluting the local area). Compare this to a commercial wash centre which treats the waste water before it goes to the sewers and only uses between 120 and 260 litres of water per vehicle. This makes commercial washing a far greener and environmentally alternative to driveway washing.
